When we go to our usual locations for photo sessions, we usually have a few spots we like to shoot at. Our associates are trained to look for the best spots for your photos and we want to share a little bit about what we look for when we’re on location! We want you to know why we choose those specific spots while on location!

Why We Choose the Spots We Do on Location | Family Photography Team

LIGHTING

The first thing we look for is lighting. Lighting is SO important for your photo session. We try our best to avoid light patches on you during a session so we look for open shade. Open shade is any spot at your location that creates shade while still giving us the light backgrounds we love! We try to stay away from trees, bushes and structures as a full background (unless they’re light or white, of course). That will give your pictures the light and airy feel that we love!

LOOKING FOR THE SKY

The reason our images are so light and stunning is because we always try to catch a glimpse of the sky in every image! Sometimes we don’t have to because of what we’re standing in front of (i.e. Harlinsdale Farm, it’s SO WHITE!). But most of the time, our photos will have a touch of sky in the background, because it helps with the light and airy feel! If we do an indoor session, we’ll choose to open all blinds, curtains and turn on any lights we can. This helps make it as light as possible inside!

GREENERY

When thinking about greenery, we try to place it on the side of the image rather than the background. We look for open spots on location where there are touches of greenery we can have you stand near. However, we always try to avoid placing you right in front of the trees/bushes unless we’re far enough away that we can still get a good bit of the sky in the top of the image.

Sometimes because of locations or other factors, all these things are impossible to achieve. That’s when we’ll look for greenery that has open spots that allow the light to peek in.
